EU Road Safety Cluster
The EU Road Safety Cluster is a collaborative platform bringing together EU-funded research and innovation projects working to advance safer, smarter, more sustainable and inclusive mobility across Europe. By connecting complementary initiatives the Cluster facilitates knowledge exchange, joint activities and collaboration on shared road safety challenges, with a particular focus on urban environments and the needs of all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and people with reduced mobility. Through joint webinars, workshops and dissemination activities, it helps maximise the impact and uptake of innovative, data-driven and human-centred solutions by policymakers, road authorities and industry, supporting the objectives of the EU Road Safety Policy Framework 2021–2030 and contributing to the long-term Vision Zero ambition of eliminating road deaths and serious injuries. As of July 2026, CAMBER leads the Cluster, coordinating its activities and strengthening cooperation among its member projects.

AI4CCAM
AI4CCAM leverages the potential of AI to create trustworthy and ethical models for predicting the behavior of vulnerable road users in urban environments. Its focus on user acceptance of automated vehicles and ethical dilemmas ensures the development of AI systems that people can trust.
CAMBER
CAMBER brings together world-class expertise in research, innovation and application in the fields of road safety, data and engineering. The project assembles the latest in data collection and analysis methods, to enhance proactive risk assessment methods with capability to predict the risk of fatal and serious crashes on urban and secondary roads, and to identify cost-effective measures to address these risks.
CERTAIN
CERTAIN delivers a resilient, human-centric framework for continuous safety assurance in Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) across Europe. Placing Safety, Trust, Acceptance and Comfort (STAC) at the heart of every vehicle lifecycle stage—from design to deployment—it ensures technology evolves with people in mind.
EVENTS
EVENTS seeks to overcome the limitations of current Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) by developing a robust and resilient perception and decision-making system that can manage unexpected “events” like adverse weather/light conditions, unstructured road environment, imperfect data, sensor/communication failures, etc., ensuring continuous safe operation in dynamic environments.
EvoRoads
EVOROADS develops a connectivity platform that digitalises transport infrastructure assets while enabling the seamless integration of safety assessment services. By leveraging advanced artificial intelligence, EVOROADS analyses infrastructure monitoring data across multiple geospatial scales, providing proactive risk alerts and supporting road operators in managing maintenance more effectively, thereby enhancing both safety and operational efficiency.
FRODDO
FRODDO aims to create safer, smarter, and more adaptable transportation systems that address the challenges posed by increasingly complex road environments. Through the innovative use of advanced sensing technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital twin simulations, it aims to make automated driving a reality for all.
HEIDI
HEIDI is breaking new ground by designing a cooperative HMI that connects drivers and pedestrians in dangerous situations. With internal and external HMIs, HEIDI adapts in real time to the behaviors and needs of drivers and VRUs.
iDriving
iDriving aims to support road users, road managers, and other relevant authorities of urban and rural secondary roads by improving infrastructure through innovative, beyond-state-of-the-art technologies, enabling optimal monitoring, prediction, and warning capabilities to help Europe achieve its road safety goals.
ProtAct-Us
ProtAct-Us aims at protecting all road user groups from serious injury and long-term physical, cognitive and mental health consequences of road crashes, through innovatively interlinked research action between medical and engineering tools.
SAFETeen
SAFETeen promotes learning and skills among secondary school students to improve hazard perception and balanced decision-making while commuting, through innovative pedagogical tools and ICT interventions tailor-made to their developmental affordances across different social contexts.
SOTERIA
SOTERIA is a Horizon Europe project, joining 16 partners towards a systematic deployment of road safety solutions in complex urban environments, especially for vulnerable populations. At the operational level, SOTERIA uncovers unexplored behavioral characteristics of Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) and engages Living Lab communities in social innovation activities, towards the co-creation of urban safety solutions and infrastructure designs.
V4SAFETY
V4SAFETY will provide a prospective safety assessment framework that can handle a large variety of safety measures, ranging from in-vehicle safety technology, infrastructure solutions to regulations that influence road user behaviour. It includes methods to project the results in future scenarios and over EU regions for use by policy makers, authorities and consumer organizations.
